A constellation of suspended bubbles containing colorful microcosms of abstract ecology hang at varying heights, roughly at eye-level with viewers, inviting them to peer inside. As the viewer walks around the suspended composition, the bubbles spin or bounce softly due to wire suspension and drafts.
Upon closer inspection, the viewer can be immersed in exploring these vibrant, naïve, coral-like habitats.
What is flora and what is fauna in this abstract organism?

When hit with direct external lights, refractions, caustic shapes and animated shadows are cast onto the installation’s surroundings, making these little biomes truly come alive.
Blurring the line between natural and surreal, abstract and figurative, organic and artificial material, the installation plays with the viewer's perception and engages them in a tactile, immersive experience that rewards close observation.
On a macro level of perception, the installation seems to just be made of colourful spheres. After the stimuli of colourful lights, one moves beyond surface impression to a micro level of perception, and fantastical worlds unfold that the viewer can microscopically examine.

Our installation is mainly made for viewers to enjoy the journey of observation, exploration and re-contextualisation.
As viewers oscillate between macro and micro perspectives, surface impressions and deeper, complex details, the installation embodies the interplay between perception, sensory experience, and the brain’s interpretive processes of constructing meaning from the external world.
Initially, this installation seems to just be one unified form made out of colourful lights. Only when viewed closely and with further focused exploration, finer details emerge and these initial simple colourful blobs turn into detailed, vibrant ecosystems. This shift parallels how our brain processes visual stimuli on multiple levels – from low-level sensory input (basic shapes and colours) to high-level cognitive interpretations (identifying patterns, objects, and relationships).
The installation rewards careful observation, as only upon closer inspection, these vibrant, surreal worlds full of flora and fauna come into existence. The goal of this piece therefore is interaction and reflection. By simply exploring the piece on different levels of observation, one already is interacting with it and reflecting upon what one just saw.
The ambiguity between flora and fauna, natural and surreal, abstraction and figuration further underlines the changing visual interpretation of this piece depending on the viewing perspective of micro or macro. As the viewer explores these synthesized environments, they project their own interpretations onto these unfamiliar, abstract forms, as they decide what is flora and what is fauna and come up with their own narrative of this complex world.
